In the California town of Gorda on the Big Sur coast, a single gas station can fill a tank for $7.59 a gallon, with premium gasoline costing more, almost $8.50 a gallon.
The other nearest gas station is 40 miles to the north and 12 miles to the south.
The city has long been known for some of the highest gasoline prices in America. According to various reports, this is due in part to the cost of the diesel generator that provides power to the gas station and the city.
